Long Arm Classes
The beginning Long Arm Classes are $75 per person and have only two people on the machine, in a hands-on, four-hour class. Classes are currently scheduled for Wednesday, Nov 4th from 4-8 and Saturday, Nov 21st from 10-2. You may call 412*584*4847 or stop in to register for a class. Payment is required at registration. We accept major credit cards, cash, and checks.
You will need to bring a blank, unlined sketchbook and a pencil. You may bring a light snack with you. We supply the quilt tops, backings and batting.
In the class you will learn how to load your quilt and the basics of using the machine, such as bringing up the thread from the bottom, starting and ending. We will cover basic free motion quilting such as all-over loops, swirls, loops and stars, etc. We will also cover using an all-over pantograph pattern— how to set it up and how to roll your quilt. You will use a laser light on the machine to follow the pantograph pattern.
By the end of class you will be able to quilt an all-over design on your own quilt.
Once you’ve taken the basic Long Arm Class, we invite you to rent a long arm machine by the hour and get those quilt tops made into quilts! The HQ 16 machine rents for $15/hour. The fee includes use of our edge-to-edge pantograph patterns. You can bring your own quality, cotton, machine quilting thread or use ours for a small fee. Machine rental is by appointment and the hours are flexible. We have a few pantograph patterns you may use, and we are willing to order others if you find something you would like to quilt.
Great for any skill level. Cost is $25 and limited to 6 students. Supply list available upon paid registration. Pattern and tool will be needed to complete this class. Registration fees are non-refundable but you can transfer to another class or another student. This is a 2 part 2 hour class. The first session is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov 11th from 4-6. Part 2 is on Wednesday Nov 18th from 4-6.
